Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Is this tea tree oil 100% pure?

Yes. The bottle holds a single botanical — Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil, steam distilled in Australia. No carrier oil, no diluent and no synthetic aroma is added. Each batch is tested separately, and the report for your LOT number is available in our quality reports.

How do I dilute tea tree oil for my face?

Dilute to 0.25%–0.5% in a carrier oil such as jojoba or fractionated coconut for the face and sensitive skin. Our dilution chart gives drop counts for 10 mL, 30 mL and 60 mL bottles. Patch test the inner forearm for 24 hours before going wider.

Can I add tea tree oil to shampoo or a cleanser?

Yes, at 0.5%–1% for scalp use. Mix it into a carrier oil or into a small amount of shampoo first rather than dropping it straight onto the scalp, and keep it out of the eyes.

Is tea tree oil safe around dogs or pets?

We do not recommend using this oil on or around pets. Tea tree is classified as a skin sensitiser and is harmful to aquatic life, and we have no pet-safety data for this batch. Keep the bottle closed and out of reach, and ask a vet before any use.

What is the difference between this and your regular tea tree oil?

This is the organic line: USDA certified organic Melaleuca alternifolia, steam distilled in Australia, with its own batch documentation. Our regular tea tree oil is the same species without the organic certification.

Where can I find the GC-MS report for my bottle?

Every batch is tested separately, so the documents belong to the LOT number rather than to this page. Enter the LOT printed on your label at HIQILI Essential Oil Reports and the GC-MS, MSDS and certificate of analysis for that batch are available there.

Why does the LOT number matter?

Because botanical composition shifts slightly from harvest to harvest. A lot number ties the oil in your bottle to the exact test that was run on it, instead of to a family average.
